I will be presenting Saturday. I asked myself about 3 weeks ago whether this topic and what I have to say might be better suited to the blog format. So after conference I will continue to share my journey here.

Here is my proposal:

"If we are lucky enough to continue in our role as teacher librarian we are often being asked to do more. More schools. More students. More teachers. More standards. More books. More grade levels. And the list goes on. I will share my journey as it continues from 6th-8th in 1993-2009 to 4th-8th in 2009-2010 to 4th-12th in 2010-2011. I, along with session attendees, will explore ways to use our powers of collaboration and creativity to transition successfully into our new complex teaching positions. Together we will look at positive ways to keep our libraries a vital part of the teaching communities at our schools, all of them, while still keeping our heads above water. Come learn as well as share new ways to get through these challenging times.

We will discuss ways to manage the increased work load of our changing teaching assignments."

Thing?

We have spent our play day setting up iGoogle and attaching all of our stuff to it. I have been on a tech roller coaster for the past year. I went from a 15 inch TV to a very large flat screen with satellite and TIVO and DVD player. I have a new refrigerator with a water dispenser and an ice maker. From no computer in my house to two. And I am loving every minute of it! I have learned how to tame all of it so that it is serving me and not the other way around.

Now Library & Classroom Learning 2.0. As I begin to explore each of the new tools I feel like it is adding more work but after working with it week after week and sharing what I learn with my friends and colleagues I am beginning to see that I can tame all of this as well.

Our school's yearbook is created online. My students and I can work on it anywhere we have a computer with internet access. We were able to start before the school year began and our work can continue whether we are at home or at school or on vacation. All photos are digital and can be immediately put online and placed into the book. Learning 24/7. This is the kind of experience I want to create with the 2.0 tools we are learning about now.

Week 2 Thing 3

I created this blog a week ago and still no comments :( I am happy to have it set up though and ideas for using blogs with students are going through my head. I attended the CLMS Conference last weekend and went to as many tech sessions as I could. What great and exciting teaching is happening in middle schools. I registered this evening. Tomorrow the rest of my colleagues at school will be creating their blogs. And overjoyed that I am a habitual user of all 7 1/2 in my professional life and my personal life. I think that the one habit I am less good at is goal setting, I am a reactor who sets and readjusts my goals after I have begun a task. The habit I welcome are the challenges that present themselves after problems arise.
